Velvereen was the female tribute from District 1 in the 10th Hunger Games. Her mentor was Palmyra Monty. During the bombing in the arena, she attempted to escape but was shot by Peacekeepers. After her death, the bodies of her along with Facet and Sabyn were dragged by horses during the Ring twins parade for their cowardly actions.
Biography[]
Death[]
While touring the Arena with her mentor and the remaining 22 tributes, several explosions planted by the rebels were detonated. After surviving the initial blow up, Velvereen along with her district partner Facet, and the tributes from District 2 took the chance to escape the now broken arena. In the chaos she was shot dead by Peacekeepers before she could reach cover.
Etymology[]
Velvereen's name may be a reference to velveteen, a type of cloth made to imitate velvet.
Trivia[]
- Despite being reaped, Velvereen never competed in the 10th Hunger games.
- She was implied to be one of the stronger tributes, as Coriolanus Snow repeatedly mentioned throughout the book that with the deaths of the District 1 & 2 tributes, Lucy Gray's odds of winning significantly increased.
